Bisserup Strand

Bisserup Strand is a small beach on the open coast facing Smålandsfarvandet, oriented southward. The beach is between 20 and 30 metres wide and approximately 110 metres long, bordered inland by a dyke with grass vegetation. The seabed to approximately 2 metres depth consists of sand, with reef formation beginning between 40 and 60 metres from the shore. Water depth at the beach is shallow, extending 250–300 metres to reach 2 metres depth.

Water

Saltwater body on the open coast. Seabed consists of sand to approximately 2 metres depth. Water depth at the beach is shallow, extending 250–300 metres to reach 2 metres depth. Dominant current direction is from the west (60% of measurements). Depth conditions vary due to tidal action, currents, and weather.

Location

Bisserup Strand is located in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Skafterupvej, with parking available outside the camping site entrance. A path leads from the parking area to the beach.

Facilities

Bathing platform installed by the municipality. Information board at the parking area for notifications of degraded water quality. Emergency telephone, toilet facilities, parking, and first aid equipment are available.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, based on monitoring data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted 10 times per year. Risk of short-term pollution exists due to extreme rainfall events in the combined sewer system and wastewater discharge from some properties in neighbouring Næstved Municipality.

Risks

Risk of short-term pollution from extreme rainfall events affecting the combined sewer system. Wastewater discharge from neighbouring Næstved Municipality. Occasional occurrences of glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills. Low risk of cyanobacterial blooms. Risk of seaweed washup, though current conditions typically flush it away within a few days. Swimming is not recommended for 3 days following extreme rainfall events.
