Strandgård beach at Klinteby is a 300-metre-long, 5–10-metre-wide sandy beach with scattered medium-sized stones and stone groynes along its length. The beach is located on Karrebæksminde Bay west of Karrebækstorp Forest in a natural setting with Klinteby Cliff to the west and forest to the east. The water is classified as brackish. The beach is monitored regularly for bathing water quality during the official swimming season.

Water

Brackish water in Karrebæksminde Bay. Water depth rises gradually offshore, with depths under 2 metres up to 200 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west.

Location

Located on Karrebæksminde Bay near Klinteby in Næstved Municipality, Denmark. Access is via the road Ved Strandskoven alongside the forest, leading to a parking area at the beach.

Facilities

Parking area at the beach. Rubbish bins at the parking area. No other facilities mentioned.

Season

Official monitoring and bathing season: 1 June to 1 September. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the season starts.

Water Quality

Classified as Good quality for 2020, meeting threshold values. Classification based on routine monitoring samples from 2016–2019 analysing E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. Monitoring occurs during the official bathing season (1 June – 1 September). The Klinteby Frihed stream outlet 150 metres west of the beach carries faecal bacteria risk, particularly during rainfall; bathing is advised against in the stream outlet area but within the defined beach boundaries the stream has low influence on water quality.

Risks

Stream outlet 150 metres west may contain elevated faecal bacteria concentrations, particularly after rainfall. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up in the water's edge. Glass shards and litter can occur in the sand. Very low risk of chemical contamination such as oil spills. Sudden pollution from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes is possible.
