Bjørnebæk is a 1,600-meter-long sandy beach located in Karrebæksminde Bay south of Kristiansholm Plantation. The beach is 10–15 meters wide and consists of sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones, with occasional large stones and groynes. The beach is set in a scenic natural environment and has water classified as brackish.

Water

Karrebæksminde Bay with brackish water classification. Water depth increases gradually from the shore, with depths under 2 meters extending 100–300 meters from the coast. Primary current direction is from the west. The stream Bjørnebækken discharges at the eastern end of the beach.

Location

Bjørnebæk beach is accessed via Strandbakken to the eastern section or via Gammel Strandvej in Bisserup to the western section. Both access routes lead to parking areas with toilet facilities available during the bathing season. The beach is located south of Kristiansholm Plantation in the Næstved Municipality area.

Facilities

Parking areas, toilet facilities (seasonal), garbage bins at parking areas on both the eastern and western sections, warning signs for water quality alerts.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Routine water quality monitoring occurs during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for 2020 based on routine monitoring 2016–2019. Classification is based on analysis of indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. The beach meets required standards for fecal bacterial concentrations.

Risks

The Bjørnebækken stream outlet at the eastern end carries risk of elevated fecal bacterial concentrations; bathing in the stream outlet is not recommended. Emergency overflow from Menstrup Treatment Plant 6.3 km upstream can cause temporary water quality degradation during heavy rainfall. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of significant macroalgae accumulation. Glass shards and litter may occur on the beach. Low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills.
