Vesterhave Strand is a 900-meter-long sandy beach located south of Karrebæksminde in Denmark. The beach is 10 to 20 meters wide and features fine sand with a seabed of sand and scattered small to medium-sized stones. The beach is separated from the town by a large green area and is surrounded by an attractive harbor environment to the southeast and open countryside to the northwest. Water quality is classified as excellent based on regular monitoring of indicator bacteria.

Water

Karrebæksminde Red is classified as brackish water. The seabed consists of sand with small and medium-sized stones. Water depth rises quickly from the shore, particularly at the southeastern end where it becomes impossible to touch bottom. Current direction is variable but primarily from the west.

Location

Vesterhave Strand is located south of Karrebæksminde near Karrebæksminde Red. Access is via Langelinie and Enø Kystvej, which lead to a parking area. The beach is 900 meters long.

Facilities

Trash bins are located at the northwestern and southeastern ends of the beach. A warning sign system is in place for water quality alerts. A life ring (redningskrans) and control point are marked on the beach overview map.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent for 2020. Classification is based on routine monitoring of E. coli and enterococci bacteria during the bathing season. The water meets required quality standards. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Water depth rises rapidly at the southeastern part of the beach. Unpredictable currents exist along the pier at the southeastern end and swimmers should exercise caution. A pump station emergency overflow located 630 meters west can discharge sewage into the bay if capacity is exceeded; overflow is expected to be rare during bathing season and would cause only brief contamination with eastward currents. Karrebækstorp Skovvandløb stream 850 meters west may contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria at times; bathing in the stream outlet is discouraged. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washup exists; bathing near large accumulations is not advised. Glass shards and litter may occur; sharp objects in sand are possible. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low.
