Lyngsbæk-Femmøller Strand

Femmøller Strand is a sandy beach approximately 300–400 metres long and 20–30 metres wide located in Ebeltoft Bay near Mols kroen roundabout. The beach bottom consists of sand with minor gravel deposits and reaches a depth of 2 metres at 75–100 metres from shore. A public meadow area behind the beach is suitable for various activities. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality.

Water

Marine water body (Ebeltoft Bay, Kattegat). Salinity approximately 25 ‰. Water temperature varies between 17 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. Two watercourses discharge into the bay: Tømmerkær stream and Femmøller Å river in the southwestern part of the beach.

Location

Located in Ebeltoft Bay at Mols kroen roundabout on Hovedgaden and Fuglsøvej. Access via multiple footpaths from parking areas at the roundabout, Molskroen, and Ishuset on Fuglsøvej 1. Approximately 80 parking spaces available.

Facilities

Parking with more than 80 spaces, benches and tables, lifeguard rescue stations, public toilets, and kiosk. Green flag indicating good beach conditions.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 May to 15 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent quality. Regular monitoring conducted from 1 May to 15 September with 10 water samples analysed. Bacterial levels are generally low but have been slightly elevated in some years. Possible pollution sources include faecal contamination from sewage overflows, scattered buildings, manure spills, boat toilet tank emptying, algae (cyanobacteria, diatoms, dinoflagellates, and macroalgae), oil spills from ships, and pollen accumulations. No industrial chemical pollution sources identified nearby.

Risks

Moderate risk of large seaweed wash-up during bathing season; small risk of harmful cyanobacteria blooms due to high salinity unsuitable for growth; low risk of other microalgal blooms; low risk of chemical pollution from ships; low risk of faecal contamination from boat toilet tank emptying; minor risk of faecal contamination from sewage system faults during rain; recurring pollen accumulations possible in spring and early summer.
