Bognæs Badebro

Bognæs Bådebro is a bathing beach located at Bognæs Forest on Tuse Næs peninsula in Holbæk Municipality, Denmark. The beach extends approximately 75 metres and consists of a sandy area about 15 metres wide that continues into the water. A large grass area with barbecue facilities, tables, and benches is available on site. The water is brackish under normal conditions with variable current direction.

Water

Brackish water with variable current direction. Depth measurements: 0.5 metres at 12 metres from shore, 0.75 metres at 25 metres from shore, 2 metres at approximately 100 metres from shore. Water depth at the end of the pier is approximately 2 metres.

Location

Bognæs Forest (Bognæs Skov) on Tuse Næs peninsula, Holbæk Municipality, Denmark. Parking is available approximately 700 metres from the beach. The beach is administered by the Forest and Nature Agency (Skov- og Naturstyrelsen) on behalf of the State Forest Service.

Facilities

Barbecue and campfire area, camping area (requires advance permission from the State Forest Service), tables, benches, large grass area. Monitoring occurs minimum 4 times per year.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the bathing water season (badevandssæsonen).

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on data from 2020–2023. Classification is determined by monitoring indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) through control samples taken during the bathing season to detect faecal contamination.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), macroalgae, and phytoplankton blooms is low. Blooms occur mainly after prolonged periods of warm, nutrient-rich water and are characterised by water discolouration. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Bathing is not recommended if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen at knee depth.
