Filmtorvet is a bathing water station in Holbæk Harbour that was closed to swimmers in 2024 due to unresolved concerns regarding commercial boat traffic. The bathing platform is not deployed during the 2024 season, preventing swimming access. Previous water quality issues occurred in 2020 and 2021 when poor conditions made the water potentially harmful to health. Following remedial work on discharge outlets in 2021 and 2022, water quality showed excellent results in 2023, with monitoring revealing no faecal contamination.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the official bathing water season. Bathing is not permitted in 2024 due to unresolved issues with commercial boat traffic.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2023 was excellent, based on 14 water samples analyzed for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). In 2022, 16 samples were collected with excellent classification results. Poor water quality in 2020 and 2021 was attributed primarily to discharge from the easternmost outlet near Filmtorvet. Remedial work involved relocating the eastern outlet in 2021 and 2022. Cyanobacteria risk is low, though algal blooms can occur after prolonged warm and nutrient-rich periods.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacterial blooms (blue-green algae), macroalgae, and phytoplankton growth is low. However, blooms can occur suddenly after prolonged periods of warm, nutrient-rich water and cause water discolouration. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Bathing is not recommended if water is unclear and feet are not visible at knee depth.
