Hørby Vest

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Hørby Vest is a bathing beach approximately 170 metres long and 3 metres wide located west of Hørby harbour. The beach consists entirely of large stones that extend into the water. The water is brackish under normal conditions. Water depth reaches 0.5 metres at approximately 30 metres from shore and 0.75 metres at 50 metres from shore.

Water

Brackish water body with variable current direction, often from the west. Water depth reaches 0.5 metres at 30 metres from shore and 0.75 metres at 50 metres from shore.

Location

Located west of Hørby harbour. Parking is available at Hørby Kro (Hørby Inn). The area is surrounded by town with agricultural land behind the beach.

Lifeguard equipment, toilet, parking, restaurant, waste bin.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on 2020-2023 data). Monitoring is conducted during the bathing season for faecal pollution indicators including E. coli and enterococci bacteria. Previous exceedances were attributed to discharge from a drainage outlet east of the bathing station. Water quality has recently improved following management measures.

Risks

Drainage outlet discharge east of the bathing station has been identified as a source of faecal pollution. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), macroalgae and phytoplankton growth is low. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Swimming is not recommended if water clarity prevents seeing feet at knee depth.
