Bøjden

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Bøjden is a bathing beach located approximately 10 kilometres west of Faaborg in Denmark. The beach is oriented towards Helnæs Bay and measures around 250 metres in length, consisting of fine white sand. The beach width reaches approximately 20 metres at its widest point with a relatively gentle slope towards the water. Behind the beach there is a grass area with tables and benches.

Water

Bathing beach in Helnæs Bay, a natural water body. The seabed is characterized by coarse stones and mussel banks for the first approximately 50 metres from the shore, with fine sand further out. Water depth increases gradually, reaching approximately 1.5 metres at 100 metres from the shore. A bathing pier approximately 70 metres long is available. Current direction is primarily southerly or westerly, influenced by tidal conditions and wind.

Location

Approximately 10 kilometres west of Faaborg, on the northwest-facing coast of Helnæs Bay bordering Lillebælt. Access to the beach is via Bøjdenlandevej through Bøjden Strand Feriepark camping site, which requires a guest pass available at the information office.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored through regular measurements in the primary bathing area. Test results show very low pollution risk. Classification is based on microbiological bathing water data from the previous four bathing seasons.

Risks

Seaweed accumulation is most significant towards the end of the bathing season, with seaweed observed in late August. Risk of blue-green algae is low, with no blooms, surface layers, or foam observed in the previous five years. Sewage overflow risk exists during heavy rainfall from the combined sewer system serving the camping site and Bøjden town, though most overflows are now collected in an expanded basin.
