Horne Sommerland is a bathing beach located approximately 11 km from Faaborg, facing south towards the South Funen Archipelago. The beach is approximately 350 meters long and consists of larger and smaller stones, with a width of approximately 10 meters at its widest point and a relatively gentle slope towards the water. A tar-contaminated area is present in the middle of the beach, which the municipality recommends avoiding for bathing and contact with stones and soil in that zone.

Water

Bathing beach in the South Funen Archipelago. The beach is approximately 350 meters long. Water depth increases rapidly, reaching approximately 1 meter after about 10 meters from the shore. The seabed is characterized by coarse stones and some fine seaweed growth, with a relatively dense seaweed belt between 6 and 14 meters from the coast. Sand bottom is present further out.

Location

Located approximately 11 km by road from Faaborg. Access to the beach is via Lyøvej, which is reached via Hornelandevej or Almarksvej or Egsgyden. Parking is available near the asphalt road.

Facilities

Public bathing bridges are present. One bathing bridge is located below the asphalt road, and a public bathing bridge is immediately west of the tar-contaminated area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on microbiological bathing water data from the most recent 4 bathing seasons. The municipality monitors bathing water quality through continuous measurements in the primary bathing area. The risk of pollution is assessed as very low. There are large livestock farms in the area representing a potential pollution risk through manure spreading accidents, but spreading typically occurs outside the bathing season.

Risks

A tar-contaminated area is present in the middle of the beach; contact with stones and soil in this area is discouraged. Seaweed accumulation is most likely towards the end of the bathing season, with seaweed observed at the end of August. Low risk of blue-green algae; no blooms have been observed in the past 5 years. Glass shards, oil pollution, and litter occasionally occur. A registered contaminated area west of the bathing beach may have significance for bathing water quality.
