Canide Norte is an urban beach with sandy morphology and an extensive sandy area. It encompasses the Sereia da Costa Verde and Canide Norte concessions. The beach is located in the Douro River basin within Vila Nova de Gaia municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality classification complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 3 weeks. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution events occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution events (lasting less than 72 hours) are unlikely but may occur due to excessive tributary flow during rainfall carrying microbiological load, or due to malfunction of the wastewater pumping station resulting in untreated effluent discharge. Faecal contamination may originate from the local sewerage network and a small waterline located north of the monitoring point. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with a history of bloom occurrences. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no history of occurrence.
