Casalborsetti is a coastal bathing area located 100 metres north of the mouth of the Canale Destra Reno in the Ravenna municipality. The beach extends from 200 metres north of the canal mouth to the foot of the northern pier of the canal outlet. The area is characterized by sandy beaches, dunes, and bathing establishments, with the settlement of Casal Borsetti situated inland. The beach width is 50–60 metres. The water body is classified as a high-stability alluvial plain coastal marine area.

Coastal marine water body. Area: 0.203 km². No rivers or direct discharges flow into this bathing water profile. The mouth of the Canale Destra Reno is located to the south of the area.

Location

Ravenna municipality, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The bathing area is located 100 metres north of the mouth of the Canale Destra Reno canal.

Facilities

Three bathing establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and refreshment points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2020–2023). Escherichia Coli at 90th percentile: 65 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 93 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 14 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 16 CFU/100 ml. No pollution sources from direct discharges are present in the bathing water area. No short-duration pollution events were recorded during bathing seasons 2020–2023. An anomalous event occurred in 2023 following flooding in Romagna on 16–17 May, causing exceedance of microbiological parameters on 30 May 2023; this was resolved by 12 June 2023.

Risks

The proximity of the Canale Destra Reno mouth may give rise to eutrophication phenomena. No sustained eutrophic phenomena caused by cyanobacteria have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae proliferation events were reported during 2020–2023. No toxic effects from phytoplankton or macroalgae were recorded.
