Casalborsetti is a bathing area located along the northern Adriatic coast in Ravenna, extending from the foot of the South breakwater of the Canale Destra Reno to 160 metres south of the canal mouth. The beach has a width of 50–120 metres and is characterised by sandy shores with beach establishments inland. The surrounding area includes the inhabited locality of Casal Borsetti and extensive agricultural fields.

Water

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. The bathing area extends 0.171 km². No watercourses discharge into the bathing water, and there are no direct marine outflows within the profile area. The Canale Destra Reno discharges to sea north of the bathing zone.

Location

Ravenna province, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The bathing area is positioned 80 metres south of the Canale Destra Reno mouth. The inhabited area of Casal Borsetti lies inland from the beach.

Facilities

Two beach establishments provide first aid services, toilets accessible to persons with disabilities, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports structures, and refreshment points.

Season

Bathing monitoring occurs during official bathing seasons from 2020 onwards. Profile review is scheduled for 2028.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on monitoring data from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli measured at 51 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile) and 72 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). Intestinal enterococci measured at 23 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile) and 27 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). Three short-duration pollution episodes occurred during bathing seasons 2020–2023: one in 2022 and two in 2023. The 2023 events were caused by the regional flood of 16–17 May 2023. An anomalous situation was declared in 2023 when legal limits were exceeded on 30 May and 12 June 2023, both events attributed to the May flooding.

Risks

The proximity of the Canale Destra Reno mouth to the north can cause eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacterial blooms have been reported in the past four years. No phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgal blooms were recorded during 2020–2023. No toxic effects from phytoplankton or macroalgae have been registered.
