Lesa-Castellaccio is a public access pebble beach located on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region. The beach stretches for 139 metres and is classified as a good quality bathing water based on routine monitoring data from 2020–2023. No anomalous events or harmful algal blooms have been recorded at this site.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: GOOD. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 34.8 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 54.5 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci at 90th percentile: 158.3 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 258.4 MPN/100 ml. A wastewater treatment plant is present within 1 km of the sampling point. The area is characterised by medium-high pressure from high density of sewer conduits.

Risks

Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of pumping systems, leading to input of untreated sewage into the lake. Possible pollution source includes inadequate management of the sewer network. No cyanobacterial monitoring is carried out periodically; however, no toxic effects have been detected on swimmers or aquatic life. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or harmful species proliferation has been recorded.
