Cattolica – Torrente Ventena 50m N is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Cattolica in the Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 300 metres. The beach is protected by rocky breakwaters approximately 70 metres long and spaced about 20 metres apart, with a free beach area to the north. The area is characterized by high tourism activity with numerous hotels and beach establishments that provide continuous lifeguard services during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. Sandy beach protected by rocky breakwaters.

Location

Cattolica, Rimini province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area extends 0.294 km. Beach width varies between 50–60 metres. Medium bather attendance recorded.

Facilities

Three beach establishments with first aid services, toilet facilities including disabled access, hot showers, barrier-free access, sports facilities and food outlets. Lifeguard services present during bathing season. One authorized launch corridor for kite surf, surf and wind surf marked with buoys and signage.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Good for 2021–2024. Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 193 CFU/100 ml; (95th percentile): 316 CFU/100 ml. Enterococci intestinales (90th percentile): 33 CFU/100 ml; (95th percentile): 42 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 with exceedance of Escherichia coli limits, classified by the European Commission as an anomalous situation. No direct discharge sources are present within the bathing water profile area.

Risks

During intense rainfall events, overflow structures in the sewerage network and pumping stations can activate, discharging excess flow into the Conca River or Torrente Ventena, whose waters reach the sea near the bathing water. The Torrente Ventena receives discharge from Cattolica's treatment plant serving the Cattolica–Misano–Valconca agglomeration; the Conca River receives discharge from Misano Adriatico's treatment plant. Bypass discharges from both treatment plants have been identified as pollution sources during overflow events. The foces of the Conca River and Torrente Ventena may originate eutrophication phenomena. No sustained eutrophic phenomena supported by cyanobacteria have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton bloom events of Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica or macroalgae blooms were reported during 2020–2023.
