Cattolica - Torrente Ventena 50m S is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Cattolica in the Emilia-Romagna region. The beach extends approximately 300 metres and is protected by a series of parallel emerged breakwaters spaced about 20 metres apart. The area experiences high tourist activity with numerous hotels and beach facilities, and maintains a constant lifeguard service during the bathing season. Beach width varies between 100–130 metres. The bathing water is classified as good quality based on monitoring data from 2021–2024.

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. The area covers 0.313 km². Sandy beach with parallel emerged breakwaters approximately 100 metres long, spaced about 20 metres apart and inclined at approximately 15° to the coastline, positioned about 100 metres from the shore.

Water Quality

Classification: Good (reference years 2021–2024). Escherichia coli: 263 (90th percentile), 445 (95th percentile). Intestinal enterococci: 41 (90th percentile), 55 (95th percentile). No direct sewage discharges or water courses flow into the bathing water profile area. No abnormal situations were recorded during the 2021–2024 bathing seasons.

Risks

The Torrente Ventena stream mouth is located north of the bathing area and receives treated wastewater discharge from Cattolica's sewage treatment plant serving the Cattolica–Misano–Valconca agglomeration. During intense rainfall events, storm overflow discharges from the treatment plant bypass and sewerage networks can occur, releasing excess flow into the Torrente Ventena, whose waters discharge to sea in the immediate vicinity of the bathing water. Potential for eutrophication exists due to the stream mouth proximity. No sustained eutrophic events caused by cyanobacteria were reported in the past four years. No phytoplankton or macroalgae bloom events were recorded during 2020–2023, and no toxic effects have been registered.
