Colonia Marina Latte is a sandy-pebbly beach alternating with rocky coastline located in the Baia di Latte near Ventimiglia. The beach features a sandy seabed and is backed by the SS1 state road, railway, and motorway. It covers an area of 0.578 km² and is classified as excellent for bathing water quality based on the 2020–2023 four-year evaluation.

Coastal water body in the Ligurian Sea within the Baia di Latte. The area extends 0.578 km² and features rocky cliffs with a small sandy-bottomed beach.

Location

Ventimiglia, Liguria, Italy. The beach is located at Capo Mortola, with access provided via the SS1 state road. The municipality office is at Piazza della Libertà 3, 18039 Ventimiglia.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2020–2023 evaluation). The Ligurian Sea is characterised by oligotrophic conditions. No treatment plants are present in the immediate area. A sewage pipe located approximately 650 m to the east of the monitoring point discharges offshore at approximately 400 m from the shore.

Risks

The Rio Belvedere stream mouth discharges directly into the bathing water. During heavy rainfall events upstream, increased stream flow can transport effluent downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been recorded in Liguria over the past decade; the reference station at Tino in Mortola recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit between 2019 and 2023. Ostreopsis ovata exposure via aerosol inhalation produces temporary and reversible effects, including respiratory tract irritation and fever in sensitive individuals.
