Calandre is a sandy beach alternating with rocky coastline located in Ventimiglia, Liguria. The beach is equipped and free to access during the summer season. Access is available on foot from Forte dell'Annunziata through a long path crossing Mediterranean vegetation, or by hotel elevator. The bathing water area extends 2.236 km and is classified as Excellent based on four-year monitoring from 2020–2023.

Coastal water body. Bathing water area extends 2.236 km. The beach consists of sandy areas alternating with rocky coast.

Location

Ventimiglia, Liguria, Italy. The beach is located at Capo Mortola and is accessed from Forte dell'Annunziata. The Strada Statale 1, railway, and motorway are situated inland from the beach.

Facilities

Free equipped beach during summer season. Elevator access available from hotel.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (evaluation period 2020–2023). A sewage pipe located approximately 1,200 m east of the monitoring point discharges offshore, outside the bathing water area. A small tourist marina (Marina di Cala del Forte) is situated approximately 650 m east of the sampling point, outside the bathing water area. No treatment plants are present in the immediate area.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events possible: during adverse weather and high water flow from torrents, wastewater transport downstream may occur. A small stream mouth (foce di un piccolo rio) is located within the bathing water. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms have occurred in Liguria over the past decade; the reference monitoring station at Tino/Mortola recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit from 2019–2023. Inhalation of Ostreopsis aerosol may cause temporary respiratory effects and fever in sensitive individuals.
