Foce Rio Latte is a sandy-pebbly beach alternating with rocky cliffs located west of the Gulf of Ventimiglia in the Ligurian coast. The bathing water is situated in a tourist and residential area within the eastern part of the inlet facing the inhabited centre of Latte. The area includes private beach establishments with services and free beach access, as well as accommodation facilities and restaurants. The bathing water has been classified as excellent for the 2020–2023 four-year assessment period.

Water

Coastal water body (Capo Mortola). The bathing area extends over 0.601 km². The water body is part of the Ligurian Sea, characterized by predominantly oligotrophic conditions.

Location

Ventimiglia, Imperia Province, Liguria region, Italy. The bathing area is located west of the Gulf of Ventimiglia. The Municipality of Ventimiglia is at Piazza della Libertà 3, 18039 Ventimiglia IM.

Facilities

Private beach establishments with services, free beach access, accommodation facilities, and restaurants are present in the area.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2020–2023 assessment period). The Ostreopsis ovata reference monitoring station at Tino in Mortola did not exceed the 30,000 cells/litre limit between 2019 and 2023, nor recorded values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre during this period.

Risks

A sewage pipe approximately 30 metres west of the monitoring point discharges into the bathing water approximately 390 metres from the shore, immediately outside the bathing water. The mouth of Rio Valle Latte is directly located on the bathing water. During meteorological events and upstream critical conditions, increased stream flow rates may transport effluents downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal proliferation occurs in the region; inhalation of aerosol from this species may cause temporary and reversible respiratory effects and possible fever in sensitive individuals.
