Confine Finale Ligure is a coastal bathing area in Borgio Verezzi, Liguria, characterized by sandy beaches to the west and a steep rocky cliff to the east. The seabed within the bathing water consists of photophilic algal communities on beach-rock at shallow depths, with seagrass meadows (Posidonia and Cymodocea) deeper offshore. The 30-meter isobath lies within 1 nautical mile of the coast, indicating deep water.

Water

Coastal water body of the Ceriale-Finale water body. The bathing area extends 0.664 km. The seabed is composed of sandy and pebbly sediments alternating with rocky zones. Algal populations occupy infralittoral depths on beach-rock, with Posidonia and Cymodocea seagrass meadows at depths of 10–15 meters.

Location

Located in the municipality of Borgio Verezzi, province of Savona, Liguria. The bathing area centre is at latitude 44.159454, longitude 8.319911. The area extends from latitude 44.158936, longitude 8.316277 (west) to latitude 44.160315, longitude 8.323215 (east). The State Road SS1 and railway line are located inland from the beach. Private bathing establishments with tourist services are present on the beach.

Facilities

Private bathing establishments with tourist services are available. The Falesia delle Cento Corde rock climbing area and equipped nature trails are present in the vicinity.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent for the 2020–2023 four-year assessment period, with water always compliant in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Previous classifications were Good for 2018–2021 and 2019–2022. The water body (Ceriale-Finale) has Good ecological status and Good chemical status under coastal marine monitoring.

Risks

Heavy rainfall can increase river flow, potentially transporting wastewater downstream. The Rio Fine flows at the eastern boundary of the bathing area, just outside the designated zone. A sewage treatment plant located approximately 80 meters north of the monitoring station discharges via an active sewer line that passes through the bathing water. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal blooms occur regularly in summer, with cell densities of 10,000–30,000 cells/liter recorded in July 2021, August 2022, and July 2023 at the reference station. Inhalation of aerosol from Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary respiratory symptoms and mild fever in sensitive individuals.
