Confine Vallecrosia is a pebble beach located in the urban centre of Bordighera, Liguria. The beach is equipped with free facilities and nearby hospitality structures and restaurants. The Argentina seafront promenade, railway network, and State Road SS1 are located inland. The bathing water area extends 0.580 km and was classified as excellent for the 2020–2023 four-year period.

Bordighera, Province of Imperia, Liguria region. The beach is located near the Argentina seafront promenade.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2020–2023: Excellent. The Vallecrosia wastewater treatment plant discharges via an active pipeline approximately 1100 m west of the sampling station, and the Bordighera treatment plant discharges approximately 1300 m from the shoreline. No specific monitoring or measures are currently activated regarding these outfalls.

Risks

During heavy rainfall and upstream problems, increased discharge from minor streams can transport sewage downstream. A minor watercourse outlet discharges directly into the bathing water. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. Microalgal proliferation of Ostreopsis ovata has occurred in Liguria for approximately one decade; however, at the reference station TINO in Mortola (Imperia) from 2020 to 2024, neither exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit nor values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre were recorded. Ostreopsis ovata can produce temporary and reversible effects through aerosol inhalation, including respiratory irritation and fever in sensitive individuals.
