A pebbly beach located in front of the Vallecrosia wastewater treatment plant in the Liguria region. The beach is situated in an urbanised coastal area near the town of Vallecrosia. The bathing water is classified as sufficient based on four-year monitoring data from 2021–2024. The beach is open to the public and free to access.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2021–2024: Sufficient. Intensified monitoring frequency is in place due to the sufficient classification. The Ligurian Sea is characterised by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. The reference monitoring station TINO at Mortola recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit for Ostreopsis ovata between 2020 and 2024.

Risks

The wastewater treatment plant outfall discharges approximately 1 kilometre offshore, outside the bathing water area. During heavy rainfall and upstream problems, increased water flow in streams may transport effluent downstream. The Nervia stream mouth is located at the western boundary of the bathing water area. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms occur in the wider Ligurian coastal region; inhalation of aerosol produces temporary and reversible respiratory effects and occasional fever in sensitive individuals.
