Levante Verbone is a pebble beach located in Vallecrosia, Liguria, in a coastal area with residential development extending to the top of the beach. To the east, a stream (rio) runs dry during summer months. The beach is equipped with facilities, reception structures, and food service establishments. The bathing water has been classified as excellent for the four-year period 2020-2023.

Water

Coastal waters (Mediterranean Sea) with an area of 0.716 km². The bathing water belongs to the Ventimiglia-Bordighera water body and is classified as coastal waters with mountainous relief and low stability.

Location

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent for the four-year period 2020-2023. The Ligurian Sea is characterised by oligotrophic conditions and is not subject to cyanobacteria blooms. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms have been observed in Liguria over the past decade. The reference monitoring station at Tino in Mortola (Imperia) showed no exceedance of the 30,000 cells/litre limit and no values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre from 2020 to 2024.

Risks

During periods of heavy rainfall, increased water flow from the Vallecrosia torrent (T.Vallecrosia) can transport sewage downstream to the bathing water. The torrent mouth is located directly at the bathing water area. Wastewater treatment discharge outlets from Vallecrosia are located approximately 1,000 metres from the shore and from Bordighera approximately 1,300 metres from the shore. Ostreopsis ovata, if inhaled in aerosol form, can cause temporary and reversible respiratory irritation and fever in sensitive individuals.
