East Coral Bay is a well-known and heavily frequented sandy beach in Paphos with a width reaching 25 metres. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status. It features a natural shoreline with a sandy seabed and sporadic isolated rocks mostly underwater. The beach is managed by a private concessionaire responsible for cleanliness using manual and mechanical means, with lifeguard services available from 11:00 to 17:30 during the swimming season.

Water

Coastal marine water body named North Paphos. Beach length 950 metres. Average water depth 2.5 metres. Maximum water depth 5 metres. Sandy seabed with sporadic isolated rocks mostly underwater.

Location

Located in Paphos District, Pegeia Municipality, Cyprus. The beach is situated in the eastern part of Coral Bay.

Facilities

Public facilities available. Toilets accessible through beach recreation areas. Large number of umbrellas and sun loungers available. Lifeguard services with rescue equipment provided from 11:00 to 17:30 during the swimming season.

Season

Monitoring and lifeguard services operate during the official swimming season. Maximum daily swimmers: 2,000–2,500 people.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal body to which the bathing area belongs is in good ecological status. No short-term pollution incidents have been recorded during swimming seasons 2008–2010. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development.

Risks

Possible pollution sources include agricultural runoff and infiltration from septic tanks of coastal developments. Motorised recreational vessels with two-stroke engines present. Risk of short-term pollution is negligible.
