Corso Marconi is a bathing water area in Sanremo, Liguria, comprising private pebbly beaches alternating with artificial structures facing the city center. The area includes private beach establishments with services, free beach areas, and dining facilities. The bathing water is classified as coastal with low stability and is characterized by a pebbly-pebble beach enclosed in an artificial inlet on its eastern side.

Water

Coastal water body with an area of 1.278 km². The beach features pebbles and stones. The water body is influenced by two rivers: Rio Bonmoschetto and Rio Flesia, which discharge directly into the bathing water.

Location

Sanremo, Liguria, Italy. The bathing area is located in front of the city center. The SS1 road runs inland from the beach, with a camper area and sports fields (Pian di Poma) for baseball, football, athletics, and rugby also present.

Water Quality

Classification for the 2019–2022 four-year period: GOOD. No treatment plants or sewage pipes are present within the bathing water itself. A sewage pipe from the Capo Verde treatment plant is located approximately 550 meters to the east, outside the bathing water, and discharges offshore at approximately 1.3 km from shore.

Risks

During heavy rainfall events and upstream water flow increases, torrent discharge can transport sewage downstream. The Rio Bonmoschetto and Rio Flesia river mouths discharge directly into the bathing water. Benthic microalgae proliferation of Ostreopsis ovata has occurred in the region over the past decade. Reference station data (VASC at Santo Stefano al Mare) showed values between 10,000–30,000 cells/liter in August 2019 and July 2022, below the 30,000 cells/liter threshold. Inhalation of aerosol from Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary and reversible respiratory symptoms and fever in sensitive individuals.
