A bathing beach located in Aarhus Municipality with a sandy bottom and approximately 20 metres of beach width. The water depth reaches 2 metres near the shore and extends to 4 metres at 40 metres from the shore edge. The bathing facility features protective structures called 'wings' that provide good protection against current effects. Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from the last four years.

Water

Sandy bottom. Beach width approximately 20 metres. Water depth 2 metres near shore, extending to 4 metres at 40 metres from shore edge. Predominantly northward current. Wave height typically 0.5 to 0.75 metres; during extreme weather from passing ferries, waves can reach higher levels.

Location

Aarhus Municipality, Denmark. Public access to the bathing facility is available from 5 June to 31 August. Outside this period, access is restricted to members of Vikingeklubben Jomsborg. Parking, toilets, and a kiosk are available on-site. A rescue station and drinking water are present.

Facilities

Lifeguard (liveredder), toilets, showers, drinking water, telephone, rubbish bins with sorting facilities, kiosk, bicycle parking (cykelsti), disabled access facilities, rescue post (redningspost).

Season

Official access to the bathing facility: 5 June to 31 August.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent. Monitored according to official standards. Risskov Creek outlet is located south of the bathing facility, discharging rainwater from a residential area, but no impact on bathing water quality is detected. During extreme rainfall, diluted wastewater from Trøjborg basin (located 950 metres south) may be discharged. Risk of faecal contamination is assessed as low.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms can occur under certain current conditions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Macroalgae (seaweed) and phytoplankton blooms can occur; large quantities of seaweed at the shoreline may pose a risk as decaying seaweed can produce toxins and protect disease-causing bacteria from UV degradation.
