Tangkrogen is a bathing beach located southwest of Marselisborg Lystbådehavn in Aarhus. The beach is 15–25 metres wide with a sand bottom and well-maintained grass areas behind it offering good recreational facilities. The 2-metre depth contour is approximately 150 metres from the shoreline. Weak currents from varying directions are typical, though high waves of 50–75 cm above natural wave height may occur due to fast ferry operations.

Location

Located southwest of Marselisborg Lystbådehavn, Aarhus. Access is available from the car park at Marselisborg Havnevej.

Water Quality

Classification is pending as sampling at Tangkrogen began in 2024 and insufficient data exists for formal classification. Elevated bacterial counts may occur during rain due to storm water discharge outlets and sewage overflows. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms can occur during particular current directions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Macroalgae (seaweed) blooms and/or phytoplankton can occur; large quantities of seaweed at the shoreline are associated with toxin formation in decaying material and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV degradation.

Risks

High waves (50–75 cm above natural height) may occur during fast ferry operations. Elevated bacterial counts during rain. Blue-green algae blooms possible under certain weather and current conditions. Macroalgae blooms can produce toxins and harbour pathogens. Storm water and sewage overflow outlets are present.
