Risskov Strandpark is a bathing beach located north of Risskov, east of a former psychiatric hospital. The beach has a width of 10 metres with a sandy bottom. The 2-metre depth contour is approximately 100 metres from the shore. Weak currents flow mainly from the southeast. Fast ferries operating in the area can generate waves typically 50–75 cm higher than natural wave height.

Location

North of Risskov, east of the former psychiatric hospital. Access from the car park at Rolighedsvej. There is a well-maintained grass area behind the beach with good recreational facilities.

Water Quality

Monitoring began in 2024, so no classification has yet been established. Water quality is classified based on data from the preceding four years where available. Risk of elevated bacterial levels during rainfall due to rainwater discharge outlets and sewage overflow outlets.

Risks

High waves from fast ferry operations, typically 50–75 cm above natural wave height. Elevated bacterial levels possible during rainfall. Blooms of cyanobacteria may occur under certain current conditions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Large accumulations of macroalgae (seaweed) at the shoreline may indicate toxin formation in decomposing material and harbour disease-causing bacteria.
