Brysoudia B is a sandy beach approximately 200 metres long located in southern Paphos, Cyprus. The beach features a hard sandstone substrate with rocky sections at its western end, and is bordered by two perpendicular artificial breakwaters with a breakwater structure approximately 100 metres offshore. The seafloor is sandy with scattered rocks and small seaweed concentrations, with average and maximum water depths of 2 metres and 3 metres respectively. The beach is situated in front of a hotel complex and supports up to 900 swimmers daily during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal water body in southern Paphos (CY_8-C1). Beach length 200 metres. Average water depth 2 metres. Maximum water depth 3 metres. Modified shoreline with two perpendicular artificial breakwaters and a parallel breakwater at the gulf entrance.

Location

Paphos District, Paphos Municipality, Cyprus. The monitoring point is located at coordinates 32.4200 E, 34.7519 N (ETRS89), positioned where the majority of swimmers gather.

Facilities

Public facilities available. Waste collection bins on the promenade maintained by Paphos Municipality. Summer services include sunbeds and umbrellas. Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment available from 11:00 to 17:30. Blue Flag status awarded. Multiple food and recreation establishments present.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The water body is in good ecological status. One pollution incident was recorded during the 2007 bathing season. Two short-term pollution incidents were recorded between 2008 and 2010 (13 October 2009 and 25 May 2010), with the 2010 incident attributed to a passing ship.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Seaweed concentrations (Posidonia) present on the beach. Small risk of short-term pollution events, estimated frequency once per bathing season with duration of 1-2 days. Possible pollution sources include malfunctioning sewage systems at coastal developments, storm water runoff, and passing vessels from Paphos port.
