Pachyammos A is a rocky beach with some sand and hard sandstone substrate located in front of hotel units in Paphos, Cyprus. The beach features a semi-natural shoreline with a concrete-reinforced northwestern section that includes a ramp for launching small boats and mooring facilities for 4-5 marine sports vessels. The beach is 420 meters long with an average water depth of 2.7 meters and a maximum depth of 4 meters. Water quality is classified as excellent based on long-term monitoring data.

Coastal water body named Southern Paphos. Beach length: 420 meters. Average water depth: 2.7 meters. Maximum water depth: 4 meters. Seabed composition: sandy with rocks primarily near rocky sections. Catchment basin: Cyprus watershed (CY001). Mean annual surface runoff in the basin: maximum in February and minimum in September (540–46 liters per second respectively). Mean annual rainfall: 551 millimeters.

Location

Paphos District, Paphos Municipality, Cyprus. The bathing water body is located in Southern Paphos. Coordinates: 32.4252°E, 34.7440°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Lifeguards and lifeguard equipment available from 11:00 to 17:30 during summer season. Sunbeds and umbrellas available from hotel operators. No public toilet facilities; swimmers may use hotel facilities. Blue Flag designation. Private operator manages the beach with responsibility for cleanliness using manual and mechanical means.

Season

The bathing area is monitored during the swimming season. Southeastern winds prevail during the swimming season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The coastal body to which this bathing area belongs is in good ecological status. Monitoring under Directive 76/160/EEC began in 2004 upon Cyprus's accession to the European Union. Long-term monitoring indicates excellent water conditions. Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton development identified.

Risks

Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Possible sources include: rainwater drainage outlet discharging at approximately mid-beach, groundwater discharge from Paphos coastal aquifer potentially containing nitrates and phosphates from upstream fertilization, moored recreational boats at adjacent hotel facility (minimal impact due to prevailing southeastern winds during bathing season), and passing vessels heading toward the mooring facility. Malfunction of sewage systems in coastal developments presents low probability.
