Hostrupskov is a bathing beach located on the southern side of Aabenraa Fjord in Denmark, opposite the residential villa district of Hostrupskov. The beach is approximately 1 kilometre long with a variable width of 5–10 metres and consists of sand with small stones at the water's edge. The seabed is sand with small stones, and water depth remains under 5 metres for up to approximately 200 metres from the shore. The beach is classified as Excellent quality based on control samples taken regularly between 2019 and 2022.

Location

Hostrupskov, southern Aabenraa Fjord, Denmark. The beach is adjacent to the residential villa district of Hostrupskov. A warning sign is posted at the path connection leading to the beach.

Facilities

Warning sign posted at the beach path. Information board at parking area regarding algal bloom risk. Warning board informs swimmers of current water quality conditions. Information signs available at the beach regarding cyanobacteria and macroalgae risks.

Season

Official bathing season runs from 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on control samples collected regularly during 2019–2022. Faecal bacteria concentrations are very low. No known direct discharge from drains or watercourses at the beach. Local contribution to pollution assessed as proportionally low. Potential contamination risk primarily associated with strong winds and heavy rain, which would be short-lived and typically lasting a maximum of 3 days.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, typically occurring after periods of heavy rainfall followed by warm conditions. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water's edge, with bathing discouraged in areas of high macroalgae concentration. Occasional pollution from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes possible. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur occasionally. Phytoplankton growth risk assessed as low.
