Ex Baby Brummel is a beach in Montemarciano, Ancona, composed of calcareous gravel with an average slope of 7% on both the emerged and submerged sections. The beach is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The distance between mean low water and high water (safe water limit) is 20 metres. Astronomical tides range from 30 to 50 centimetres. The surrounding area comprises urban and productive settlements with a railway line passing through.

Coastal bathing water body in the Senigallia–Ancona water body classification. Beach area 0.4634 hectares. Distance between mean low and high water 20 metres. Mean slope 7%.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The Vallechiara wastewater treatment plant (biological BNR with anaerobic digestion) serves approximately 70,000 inhabitants and 3,500 equivalent inhabitants from productive activities. Monthly E. coli controls at the treatment plant during 2010 showed results conforming to authorised limits. Escherichia coli measurements at the plant ranged from below detection limit to 3,000 CFU/100 ml (September 2010).

Risks

Natural water channel discharging via concrete pipe into the sea. In April 2007, a fuel oil spill from the API Refinery contaminated the beach; bathing was temporarily closed from 04/04/2007 until end of May following cleanup operations. Fibrocapsa japonica (non-toxic phytoplankton) blooms occurred in August 2009 and late August 2010, causing reddish-brown coloration and oily water consistency.
