Villetta Teresa is a bathing beach in Montemarciano, Marche region, located along the Adriatic coast near Ancona. The beach consists of calcareous gravel with an average slope of 7% and is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The beach extends 600 metres in length and 10 metres in width, with a distance of 20 metres between medium-low and high water marks.

Water

Coastal bathing area along the Adriatic Sea between the Misa and Fosso Rubiano rivers. The beach has a tidal range of 30–50 centimetres. The receiving water body for wastewater discharge is the Rigatta channel, which flows directly into the sea.

Bar and camper parking area. No animals permitted on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Category E. The bathing area is served by the Vallechiara treatment plant in Falconara M.ma, a biological treatment facility with anaerobic digestion, serving approximately 70,000 inhabitants. Monthly monitoring by ARPAM in 2010 of E. coli at the treatment plant showed compliance with authorized limits. Fibrocapsa japonica algal blooms occurred in August 2009 and late August 2010, causing reddish-brown discoloration and oily water consistency.

Risks

In April 2007, a fuel oil spill from the nearby API refinery resulted in temporary closure of the bathing area. Overflow discharge structures are located along the beach and can bypass the treatment plant during heavy rainfall events. Non-toxic Fibrocapsa japonica algal blooms recorded in 2009 and 2010.
