A beach located in Montemarciano, Ancona, in the Marche region of Italy. The beach consists of calcareous and siliceous gravel with an average slope of 7% both above and below water. The beach is 500 m long and 20 m wide, with a distance of 10 m between mean low and high water marks. The surrounding area is characterized by urban settlements and includes a railway line crossing.

Coastal marine water body named Senigallia_Ancona. Astronomical tidal range is 30–50 cm. Beach area extends 0.45873 hectares.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Category E. The bathing water is served by the Vallechiara wastewater treatment plant in Falconara M.ma, a biological BNR facility with anaerobic digestion, serving approximately 70,000 inhabitants from urban areas and 3,500 inhabitants equivalent from industrial activities. Monthly monitoring by ARPAM in 2010 showed E. coli levels ranging from below detection limit to 3000 CFU/100 ml in September 2010. Wastewater treatment plant discharge is through the Rigatta stream, which flows directly into the sea through the API refinery.

Risks

Oil spill from API refinery on 4 April 2007 caused closure of the bathing area. Fibrocapsa japonica algal blooms occurred in August 2009 and August 2010, causing brown-reddish discoloration and oily consistency of water. Natural drainage channel for clear waters is present.
