Strandhuse Strand is a 10–15 metre wide sand beach located on the eastern coast of Jutland in Hedensted Municipality, bordering Vejle Fjord. The beach stretches 500 metres and is divided by coastal protection structures. It lies in the southern part of Juelsminde town, backed by a residential area with mixed year-round and summer house development. The beach has shallow water with a sandy bottom on the inner side of the coastal protection structures.

Water

Sand beach in Vejle Fjord on the eastern coast of Jutland. The beach is 10–15 metres wide and 500 metres long. Water depth is approximately 2 metres up to 130 metres from the shore, and approximately 10 metres at 1000 metres from the shore. Summer water temperature ranges from 11–22 degrees Celsius. Salinity is 18–20 PSU. Current direction is variable and depends on wind conditions, tidal conditions, and local eddy currents.

Location

Strandhuse Strand is located on the eastern coast of Jutland in Hedensted Municipality, in the southern part of Juelsminde town. Access is from Petersmindevej in Juelsminde. Parking spaces and disabled parking are available.

The bathing water quality is monitored throughout the entire bathing season.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Strandhuse Strand is classified as excellent, the highest water quality category. The classification is based on the last four years of bathing water analysis data. Short-term contamination events occur approximately once annually, likely caused by improper handling of wastewater from campers on the parking area. Bathing water analyses show no persistent pollution from non-sewered areas or agricultural runoff in amounts that directly cause problems.

Risks

Strong current on the outer side of the coastal protection structures. Risk of algal blooms during periods with abundant light, nutrients, and heat, especially during calm weather. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) during warm, sunny, and calm periods with easterly wind bringing algae from the Baltic Sea along the eastern Jutland coast. Risk of seaweed washup on the beach during heavy weather and onshore wind, which can cause aesthetic problems and oxygen depletion during decomposition.
