Fejø, Sydstranden

Fejø, Sydstranden is a 150-metre-long beach located on the western side of Fejø island, facing Smålandsfarvandet. The beach consists primarily of small and medium-sized stones, with a few larger stones present. Behind the beach is a broad green area suitable for sunbathing and recreation. The water is classified as brackish and the beach is situated near a holiday home area.

Water

Smålandsfarvandet, classified as brackish water. Water depth increases gradually from the shore, remaining under 2 metres at 100 metres from the coast. Current direction at the beach is variable with no dominant direction.

Location

Fejø island, western side facing Smålandsfarvandet. The beach can be accessed via Vestergårdsvej and Poppelstien, where parking is available. Vester Havn ferry terminal is located 400 metres northwest of the beach.

Facilities

Trash bins are located at the path leading to the beach. Information sign available for warnings regarding reduced water quality.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent. Classification is based on routine sampling for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season 2018–2021. Treated wastewater from the holiday home area is discharged via pipeline but is sufficiently diluted not to affect water quality.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) accumulation in the water's edge. Glass shards and litter can occasionally occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Sudden pollution is possible from accidents involving recreational boats, slurry tankers, or sewage lines.
