Nybølle

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Nybølle is a family-friendly bathing beach located on the north side of Lolland in Rågø Sund. The beach is 170 metres long and 10 metres wide, with fine sand and scattered stones. The beach is situated in open green surroundings with agricultural land in its hinterland and watershed. The water is classified as brackish.

Water

Brackish water in Rågø Sund in Smålandsfarvandet. The seabed consists of fine sand with small and medium-sized stones. Water depth is less than 2 metres approximately 350 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west.

Location

The beach is located on the north side of Lolland near Nybølle. Access is via Husmandsvejen, which ends at a car park by the beach. The nearest town is Maribo.

Season

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent (Udmærket kvalitet) for 2022. Classification is based on routine monitoring of faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season. Monitoring occurs regularly between 1 June and 1 September.

Risks

A stream outfall is located 130 metres east of the beach and carries risk of high faecal bacterial concentrations during certain periods; bathing in the stream outfall is not recommended. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) accumulation in the water's edge. Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Sudden contamination from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipelines is possible.
