Kragenæs

Kragenæs is a small, charming harbour town on the north side of Lolland where bathing takes place from a bathing bridge with stairs from the pier at Kragenæs Harbour. The bathing area is 100 metres long and situated on fine sandy seabed without stones in shallow water. The hinterland features a pleasant forest area and a campsite. The water is classified as brackish water in the Smålandsfarvandet.

Water

Smålandsfarvandet (brackish water). Water depth is less than 2 metres at 300 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable with no dominant flow direction at the beach.

Location

Kragenæs Harbour on the north side of Lolland. Access is via Kragenæsvej and around the southern side of Kragenæs Harbour. Parking is available at the bathing site.

Facilities

Bathing bridge with stairs from the pier; parking available; rubbish bins on the harbour.

Season

Official monitoring and bathing season: 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality for 2022. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples taken during the bathing season 2018–2021. Water is monitored for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. Routine control samples are taken throughout the official bathing season from 1 June to 1 September.

Risks

A watercourse outlet south of Kragenæs Harbour carries risk of elevated faecal bacteria concentrations; bathing is not recommended at this outlet. A rainwater discharge 150 metres north of the control point carries risk of elevated faecal bacteria during precipitation. Risk of algal blooms (cyanobacteria and phytoplankton) is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washup at the water's edge. Glass shards and litter may occur. Risk of chemical pollution (such as oil spills) is very low. Sudden contamination from accidents such as leisure boat spills, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes may occur.
