Kragenæs Nordstrand

Kragenæs Nordstrand is a narrow sandy beach located on the northern coast of Lolland, just west of Kragenæs Ferry Harbour. The beach is 125 meters long and composed of fine sand with occasional large stones. A floating bathing bridge and bathing platform are available for swimmers. The beach is situated in a green area with various recreational facilities nearby.

Water

The beach faces Smålandsfarvandet, classified as brackish water. The seabed consists of fine sand with few stones. Water depth is less than 2 metres far out from the shore. Current direction is variable.

Location

Located west of Kragenæs Færgehavn on the northern coast of Lolland. Access via Kragenæsvej. Parking available directly at the beach.

Facilities

Floating bathing bridge, bathing platform, beach volleyball court, ball court, lifeguard ring.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs during the official bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually before the season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent. Classification based on routine samples collected during bathing seasons 2018–2021, analysed for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. The municipality has no knowledge of faecal pollution sources affecting the beach.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washing ashore. Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Sudden pollution from vessels, slurry tanks, or sewage lines is possible.
