Punta Murena is a coastal bathing water located near the promontory of Punta Murena in Alassio, Liguria. The beach is predominantly sandy with a gentle slope towards the eastern zone. A tourist port lies to the west and cliffs are present to the east. The water body is classified as coastal waters with mountainous features and low stability.

Coastal water body. Area of 1.572 square kilometers. Fed by three streams: Rio Casciani, Rio Giarinin, and Rio Brachetto. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions.

Location

Alassio, Province of Savona, Liguria region. The bathing area covers 1.572 square kilometers. The municipality office is located at Piazza della Libertà no. 3, 17021 Alassio.

Facilities

Private bathing facilities (bagni marini) with related services are present in the zone.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). A coastal wastewater treatment plant at località S. Anna serves the area. Short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations are assessed using a modeling approach currently in development.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms do not characterize the Ligurian Sea due to its predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years.
