Phoenikoudis 1 is a sandy beach located within the urban area of Larnaca, Cyprus. The beach is 360 metres long with water depths ranging from 1 metre to 2 metres on average. The beach is bordered to the north by Larnaca Marina, separated by a large breakwater, and to the south by Phoenikoudis 2 beach. The beach features tourism and recreation facilities operating seasonally during summer months, with extensive hotel, residential, and restaurant development in the hinterland. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status.

Water

Coastal bathing water body named Larnaca West (CY_19-C2). The beach is 360 metres long with average water depth of 1 metre and maximum depth of 2 metres. The seabed consists of sand with pockets of Posidonia oceanica seagrass in certain locations. The coastal zone is semi-natural with an open front facing the sea and unobstructed natural water circulation and renewal.

Location

Located in Larnaca, Cyprus within the urban area of Larnaca city. The beach is administered by Larnaca Municipality and falls within the Larnaca District. Coordinates: 33.6394°E, 34.9153°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Blue Flag status. Municipal toilets, showers, changing rooms available. Umbrellas and sun loungers offered. Waste collection bins provided. Lifeguard services with rescue equipment available from 09:00 to 18:30. Maximum daily bather capacity is 1800 persons. Beach cleaning managed by Larnaca Municipality. No water sports services offered.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal body to which the bathing water belongs is in good ecological condition. Monitoring has been conducted for many years, with monitoring reports prepared according to Directive 76/160/EEC since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. Risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton is moderate.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Small risk of short-term pollution from passing ships, storm water runoff, and high bather numbers. Possible pollution sources include storm water runoff from the urban area and passing vessels to and from Larnaca Port and Marina to the north.
