Makentzy 1 is a sandy beach of relatively large width and length located north of Larnaca Airport in Cyprus. The beach is part of a continuous stretch with Makentzy 2 beach to the south. A coastal road runs along the northern section with a pedestrian promenade in the southern area. The beach is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars, and recreational facilities, with palm trees and ornamental plantings throughout.

Water

Coastal marine water body named Larnaca West (CY_19-C2). Sandy beach 520 metres long with average depth of 0.8 metres and maximum depth of 2 metres. The seabed consists of sandy sediment with small pockets of Posidonia oceanica seagrass in deeper areas. Stone breakwaters are present along the northern section to prevent sand erosion.

Location

Located north of Larnaca Airport in the Larnaca District, Cyprus. The beach is part of the Larnaca Municipality. Coordinates: 33.6389°E, 34.8918°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Blue Flag certified beach. Municipal toilets and changing rooms. Umbrellas and beach beds available for hire. Waste collection bins. Lifeguard services with lifesaving equipment available from 09:00 to 18:30. Water sports infrastructure at the centre of the beach. Beach cleaning is managed by Larnaca Municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on long-term monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. The beach holds Blue Flag certification. No recorded incidents of short-term pollution during swimming seasons 2008-2010.

Risks

Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton. Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Possible pollution sources include passing vessels and storm water runoff, with estimated frequency of once per swimming season lasting 1-2 days.
