Makentzy 2 is a sandy beach of considerable width and length located north of Larnaca Airport in Cyprus. The beach is continuous with Makentzy 1, forming a single unified beach from a morphological perspective. A pedestrian walkway runs along the landward boundary of the sandy shore, with restaurants, cafes, bars, and recreational facilities positioned along it. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag designation.

Water

Coastal marine water body in the Larnaca West water body (CY_19-C2). Beach length is 280 metres. Average water depth is 0.8 metres, with a maximum depth of 2 metres. The seabed in the shallow zone is sandy, with small pockets of Posidonia oceanica seaweed present mainly at greater depths. The shoreline is open to the sea with natural water circulation and renewal.

Location

Located in Larnaca District, north of Larnaca Airport. The beach borders Makentzy 1 to the north. Parking is available inland from the beach.

Facilities

Municipal toilets and changing rooms (shared facilities with Makentzy 1). Umbrellas and beach loungers available. Waste collection bins provided. Lifeguard services with lifesaving equipment available from 09:00 to 18:30. Beach cleaning maintained by Larnaca Municipality. Blue Flag designation awarded.

Water Quality

Water quality has been monitored for many years, with systematic monitoring reports beginning in 2004 following Cyprus's accession to the European Union. The water quality is classified as excellent. The coastal water body in which it is located is in good ecological condition.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Passing vessels and stormwater runoff identified as possible pollution sources. Small risk of short-term pollution events, with an average of one recorded incident per swimming season (1–2 days duration).
