Kastella Larnaca is a sandy beach of relatively wide expanse located on the southern outskirts of Larnaca city near the salt marshes. The beach is bordered to the north by the Larnaca fishing harbour, separated by a rubble breakwater. Behind the beach are houses, restaurants, and tourism facilities with landscaping including palms and ornamental plants. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status.

Water

Coastal marine water body named 'Larnaca West' (CY_19-C2). Beach length: 398 metres. Mean water depth: 0.8 metres. Maximum water depth: 2 metres. Sandy seabed with patches of Posidonia oceanica seagrass. Semi-natural littoral zone with free water exchange to open sea.

Location

Southern outskirts of Larnaca city, near the salt marshes. Adjacent to Larnaca fishing harbour to the north. Coordinates: 33.6395°E, 34.8984°N.

Facilities

Blue Flag status beach. Umbrellas and sunbeds available. Waste bins provided. Beach cleaning managed by Larnaca Municipality. Marine sports activities available at northern end including water bike rentals and jet ski hire. No public service facilities for swimmers.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring conducted since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004 under Directive 76/160/EEC. Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton.

Risks

Low risk of short-term pollution. One recorded pollution incident between 2008 and 2010 (22 September 2009). Potential pollution sources: passing vessels and rainwater runoff. Low frequency of short-term pollution events (once per bathing season, duration 1-2 days). Larnaca fishing harbour nearby does not directly affect the beach due to southwesterly winds during bathing season.
