Phoenikoudes 2 is a sandy beach of considerable width located in the urban area of Larnaca, Cyprus. It borders Phoenikoudes 1 beach to the north and together they form a single continuous beach from a morphological perspective. The beach features seasonal tourism and leisure facilities operating during summer months, with extensive residential and tourist development inland including hotels, restaurants, and other tourism infrastructure. Extensive palm tree plantings line the beach and the coastal road. The beach is designated with the Blue Flag designation.

Water

Sandy beach measuring 400 metres in length. Average water depth is 1 metre with maximum depth of 2 metres. The seabed consists of sandy material with pockets of Posidonia oceanica seagrass. The coastal zone has a natural morphology with an unobstructed front facing open sea, allowing natural water circulation and renewal. The beach formation is primarily the result of a large breakwater structure of Larnaca marina located to the north, which blocked coastal sand transport by wave action and sea currents.

Location

Located in Larnaca District, within Larnaca Municipality, Cyprus. The beach is part of the urban development of Larnaca city. Coordinates: 33.6387°E, 34.9133°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Municipal toilets, showers, changing rooms, umbrellas, sun loungers, waste collection bins. Lifeguard services with rescue equipment available from 09:00 to 18:30. Blue Flag designation. Beach cleaning is the responsibility of Larnaca Municipality. Maximum daily bathers: 1,800. No water sports services are offered.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The beach has been monitored for many years, with formal monitoring reports according to Directive 76/160/EEC beginning in 2004 when Cyprus joined the European Union. The coastal water body to which the beach belongs is in good ecological condition.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Small risk of short-term pollution events from passing ships, rainfall runoff, and high numbers of swimmers. Between 2008 and 2010, short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the 2009 swimming season and attributed to passing vessels. Short-term pollution events occur approximately once per swimming season and typically last 1–2 days.
