Følle Strand is a 250-meter-long sandy beach located at the bottom of Århus Bay, south of the towns Ugelbølle, Følle, and Rønde in a large summer house area. The municipal bathing beach forms the eastern part of the strand and is characterized by fine sand with only minor gravel content, measuring approximately 10 to 12 meters wide. The beach is particularly child-friendly with shallow water and no currents. Water temperature varies between 14 °C and 20 °C during the bathing season, with salinity around 25 ‰.

Location

The beach is accessed via Strandvejen in Syddjurs Municipality, Denmark. While the access road is signposted, there are no marked parking spaces directly adjacent to the beach. Public parking is available east of the beach near Røllikevej.

Facilities

Public toilet, benches and tables, small boat mooring areas, swimming suitable for all ages.

1 May to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'excellent'. Bathing water is monitored regularly during the bathing season from 1 May to 15 September, with four samples taken and results posted on the municipal website. Analysis shows generally stable good conditions, though water samples occasionally contain low levels of bacteria with unknown cause. Risk of short-term fecal contamination is low to moderate.

Risks

Possible sources of short-term contamination include: fecal pollution from wastewater discharge, spread dwellings, manure spills, and emptying of boat toilet tanks; blue-green algae and other microscopic algae; seaweed accumulation; oil spills from ships; and pollen accumulation. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is very low due to high salinity. Risk of short-term fecal contamination from boat toilets is low. Minor risk of seaweed wash-up. Risk of chemical contamination from ships is low.
