Coastal Mediterranean waters off Nice, extending to 300 metres from the municipal shoreline.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring covers 26 sampling sites distributed between La Lanterne and Coco Beach along the municipal shoreline.

Season

1 June to 30 September

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored using bacteriological parameters: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Good quality threshold is below 370 enterococci/100ml and below 1000 Escherichia coli/100ml. Sampling is conducted weekly during the bathing season. Pollution sources identified include domestic sewage, urban runoff, industrial discharge, and agricultural pollution. Bacteriological, chemical, physical, and thermal pollution types are monitored.

Risks

Identified risks include pathogenic germs from swimmers, sewerage and stormwater networks (structural insufficiency, accidents, overload during heavy rain), and terrestrial inputs from watercourses. Marine pollution from hydrocarbures and proliferation of the algae Ostreopsis ovata are documented pollution hazards.
