Marine bathing waters along the coast of Nice, extending from La Lanterne to Coco Beach.

Location

Nice, France. Monitoring extends from La Lanterne to Coco Beach with 26 sampling sites distributed along the coast. The mayor's authority extends to 300 metres from the communal shore.

Facilities

Daily visual surveillance of water quality. Daily collection of floating debris by municipal cleaning boats. Municipal agents conduct daily visual monitoring during normal operations.

Season

June 1 to September 30, 2024.

Water Quality

Bacteriological monitoring for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Good quality threshold: E. coli at 1000/100ml and enterococci at 370/100ml. Weekly monitoring from June 1 to September 30, with pre-season sampling between May 10 and 20. Results interpreted within 36 hours using ANSES standards. Pollution sources include domestic, urban, industrial, and agricultural activities; network infrastructure failures; stormwater overflow.

Risks

Bacterial contamination from bathers, sewage and stormwater networks, and terrestrial water inputs. Chemical pollution from pesticides, nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals, PCBs, and hydrocarbons. Physical pollution from suspended solids. Thermal pollution. Marine pollution from undetermined sources, hydrocarbons, and algal proliferation (Ostreopsis ovata).
