Fyel Badesø

Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Fyel Badesø is a recreational bathing lake near Voervadsbro formed by historical gravel extraction. The water is classified as Excellent as of 2020. The lake covers approximately 1 hectare and is fed by groundwater with no inlets or outlets. The approximately 50-meter sandy beach is located on the southeastern side, with a designated bathing zone extending 50 meters along the shore.

Water

Freshwater lake approximately 1 hectare in area. Maximum depth 6 meters. Bottom predominantly sandy. Depth profile: 0–1.8 meters with gentle slope from the southeastern side for approximately 8 meters, then marked drop. Groundwater-fed with no inlets or outlets. Water currents depend on wind direction. Thermocline conditions may develop in deeper areas.

Location

The beach is located on the southeastern side of Fyel Badesø near Voervadsbro. Access is via Ryvej with a car park available. Pedestrian access is also possible from Birknæsvej via a path south of the lake. A temporary toilet wagon is set up during the bathing season at the beach.

Facilities

Information board and rescue ring posted at the bathing beach. Temporary toilet wagon during bathing season, to be replaced with permanent facilities. Lifeguard status not specified.

Water Quality

Water is classified as Excellent (new monitoring station in 2020). Very clean water due to groundwater origin. No immediate pollution sources identified in the vicinity. Livestock manure application occurs in the catchment but is assessed as having minor significance for water quality. No wastewater from nearby properties. Monitoring conducted minimum 6 times per year. Municipality will issue warning signs and website notification if contamination is detected that could affect bathing water or bather health.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms possible in late summer, though risk assessed as very low due to very clean water and absence of inlets. Phytoplankton growth may occur during bathing season, reducing water clarity. Plant material can accumulate at the water's edge. Temperature thermocline in deeper areas may cause sudden temperature drops, potentially causing cramps; young and inexperienced swimmers should remain near the beach.
