Ring Sø is a medium-depth lake located in the eastern end of the lake, serving as a recreational bathing area near Brædstrup town. The lake has a maximum depth of 5 metres and an average depth of 2.9 metres, with a surface area of 24 hectares. The beach extends approximately 50 metres and consists of a sandy area about 20 metres wide with a bathing platform. The water is classified as Excellent quality.

Water

Medium-depth lake with a surface area of 24 hectares. Maximum depth 5 metres, average depth 2.9 metres. Water depth at the bathing area ranges from 0 to 1.5 metres with gradual slope. Summer visibility depth averages 2.4 metres with a minimum measured visibility of 1.2 metres. Catchment area is 307 hectares, approximately 86% of which is cultivated.

Location

Located at the eastern end of Ring Sø near Brædstrup town. Access via Søkildevej through a field road. A parking area is provided with a portable toilet facility.

Facilities

Bathing platform, information board near the bathing platform, portable toilet at parking area. Lifeguards not mentioned.

Season

Monitored minimum 4 times per year. The portable toilet is closed during winter due to risk of frost damage.

Water Quality

Water classified as Excellent quality based on data from the previous year and three preceding bathing seasons. The lake contains large quantities of zooplankton in periods, which limits phytoplankton growth.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms occur frequently in late summer, particularly after rainy periods followed by warm weather, potentially causing paint-like layers or spots on the water surface. Cyanobacteria can produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea and diarrhoea. Phytoplankton growth occurs during the bathing season, reducing water clarity. Large quantities of aquatic plant material can accumulate at the beach edge; decaying plant material can produce toxins and protect disease-causing bacteria from UV radiation. Occasional contamination from glass, litter, chemical pollution and oil spills may occur.
